A New FutureMeds Dedicated Research Site to Open its Doors in the UK, Led by Anna Townsend-Rose

Updated: May 18, 2023

Anna Townsend-Rose will lead FutureMeds North East, the newest UK-based Dedicated Research Site in our portfolio. She aims to build a stable, dedicated and driven team who shares her vision of creating the biggest imprint in clinical trial management across the North East.

Anna Townsend-Rose has been appointed as FutureMeds' newest Site Director. She will be responsible for overseeing the development of FutureMeds North East.

“We couldn’t wish for a better clinical research professional who could oversee our growth in North East as a site director. Anna proved over and over again that strong vision, dedication, leadership and collaboration lead to fantastic client and patient results.”

- Dr Radoslaw Janiak, CEO of FutureMeds

Anna has a sound track record of research site success with notable achievements. As a driven clinical professional, she understands what it takes to take trial outcomes to the next level.

One of her most prominent achievements saw a poor-performing investigator unit being transformed into a global, award-winning research site by embracing the value of teamwork, collaboration and a desire for the whole team to contribute to the success of the site.

“Working in clinical research gives me a unique opportunity to make a real difference, improving people's quality of life, which makes it such a rewarding career. I have seen study drugs that have been trialled at my previous site that have gone to license and are available for patients. That gives me such motivation to work closely with our clients to make the trial run smoothly to achieve the results required."

- Anna Townsend-Rose, Site Director, FutureMeds North East

Anna trained as a registered nurse at the Whittington Hospital in London in 1988, subsequently practising across numerous disciplines, including a speciality in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which later led to a breakthrough project and a lasting impact on NHS practice.

Due to her involvement in pioneering a groundbreaking holistic COPD patient service programme named Acute Chest Triage Rapid Intervention Team (ACTRITE), she was recognised nationally by the Royal College of Nursing.

ACTRITE service integrated primary and secondary care for patients through a team of nurses specialising in patients with COPD, supported by senior respiratory physicians. The ACTRITE assessment considered all aspects of the patient's problem, and the aim was to care for the patient holistically. If home care was deemed appropriate, ACTRITE would provide full support for the patient at home. This included regular visits from the ACTRITE nurses, supported in the evening and overnight by the district nursing team. This model is now standard across the UK.

Inquisitive by nature, Anna pursued a career within the clinical research industry as a Senior Research Nurse beginning in 2006. Eventually, becoming Site Manager 2 years later.

Outside work, she enjoys spending precious time with her family at home in rural Northumberland and, when time allows, swimming in the Tyne and regularly taking part in a range of fitness classes.

Her dedication to health and wellness has inspired her previous team to work together to improve health at work, bringing in healthy snacks, sharing low-fat recipes and helping both staff and patients choose health-conscious options for over a year starting in March 2015.

Ultimately, her team earned a bronze award in the North East Better Health at Work scheme.

Considering the everchanging clinical trial landscape, the evolving challenges, and the growing appetite for DCTs, Anna’s ACTRITE experience, nurse background, and strong site management experience will create additional value for clients, partners and patients alike.

On her appointment, she commented, “FutureMeds has a fantastic team with a wealth of experience in clinical trials. The company is very patient-focused and is clearly keen to play an integral role in improving people’s health.”
