As part of the partnership, FutureMeds opens a dedicated research site within GP Pathfinder Clinics’ Willesden medical centre in London, enhancing patient access to innovative medical treatments, accelerating the development of new therapies and setting an example for the sector and the country.

Focusing on providing a diverse patient population with excellent care and ensuring prompt access to the right healthcare professionals, GP Pathfinder Clinics, a new breed of modern GP practices, built a sizable patient database. Their 5 sites serve circa 100,000 patients, with access to an additional 320,000 patients through the Primary Care Network.

"At GP Pathfinder Clinics, we’ve always believed that technology, when combined with clinical excellence, can dramatically improve patient outcomes. This partnership with FutureMeds allows us to extend that philosophy into the research space, offering our patients earlier access to groundbreaking treatments while supporting the NHS’s future. By embedding clinical trials into everyday primary care, we’re making participation in research more accessible, inclusive, and aligned with real-world patient journeys."

GP Pathfinder Clinics is well-known for their 24/7, "always-on" primary care model, advanced technological infrastructure, high-quality clinical coding, and unique staffing approach that takes patient access to a new level. They collaborate closely with the local community, including local councillors, religious leaders and community leaders, to ensure their services are accessible and understood by everyone. With 121 languages spoken in Brent, they aim to serve all members of their diverse community effectively.

As a result of their innovative use of technology and service optimisation, 90% of patients are seen on the same day, and the longest wait time for a face-to-face appointment is limited to just 2 days. Within Brent borough, the 5th largest in London, GP Pathfinder Clinics’ model measurably decreased the patients’ A&E usage across North West London.

The new dedicated site is on track to create a high-performing blueprint for public-private partnerships in the UK that can transform trial delivery in the country.

The parties shared overarching goals are to enhance patient access to trials, improve care options and attract investments that can support the NHS and the local communities.

"The launch of FutureMeds’ new London site marks an exciting milestone as for our network and clients, bringing clinical research to an underserved and diverse patient population. Leveraging our combined expertise and knowledge, this development enables both FutureMeds and GP Pathfinder Clinics, to drive inclusive and impactful healthcare innovation and bring more investment to the communities.”

With £600 million in new government investment into clinical trials, this partnership can exemplify how strategic public-private cooperation can help the UK reclaim its status as a global research leader while directly benefiting NHS patients.

The new dedicated research site will initially focus on therapeutic areas including endocrinology, cardiometabolic conditions (such as obesity), rheumatology, dermatology, gastroenterology, and oncology.

The FutureMeds London dedicated research site is scheduled to become operational by July/August, with an official opening event planned for early-September.
