On a quiet stretch of Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street in Olsztyn, a 19th-century military foundry has found new purpose. Where cannon moulds once stood, patients now sit in consultation rooms, taking part in clinical trials that may shape the future of medicine.

What was once a neglected industrial shell is now Health Foundry, a striking new medical facility in Olsztyn, rebuilt and reimagined by a family of doctors with deep roots in the city.

Led by Dr. Tadeusz Żechowicz and his son Dr. Maciej Żechowicz, Principal Investigator and cardiologist, the transformation was a homecoming for medicine, for history, and for the local community. With support from FutureMeds, a dedicated site network operating across Europe, the relocation of their practice offers both expanded clinical trial access for patients and a restored landmark for the city.

“With Health Foundry, more patients can now access clinical trials, and we’re able to expand into new therapeutic areas in a modern, purpose-built environment. But what truly sets this clinic apart is its setting. It is a unique space where the future of medicine meets the legacy of the past. We’re incredibly proud of our new Olsztyn clinic and the unique atmosphere it offers to everyone who walks through its doors.”

— Dr Piotr Rozpondek, Managing Director at FutureMeds Poland

The previous clinic, though longstanding, was constrained. It offered only three medical rooms and operated within a shared public-private healthcare facility, limiting the team’s ability to enrol patients or grow research capacity.

Health Foundry now changes that with space to serve more patients, explore new therapeutic areas like oncology and neurology, and host clinical teams in significantly improved working conditions.

The clinic was officially unveiled at a celebratory opening, which included a tour of the renovated building, speeches by the founding family, and a gathering of clients, civic partners, and the builders who brought the vision to life. For many in attendance, the moment represented not just a medical milestone, but a restoration of local pride.

Kuźnia Zdrowia, housing the new FutureMeds centre in Olsztyn, was created out of love and respect for people, history, and art,” said Dr. Maciej Żechowicz.

“We believe that by offering the medicine of the future, our patients will also appreciate the beauty of tradition: the historical surroundings and the family atmosphere of the newly opened clinic.”

That sense of legacy runs deep in the Żechowicz family. Dr. Tadeusz Żechowicz, a pioneer in cardiology in the region, founded Medeusz-Plus in 2011 with his son Maciej. However, their story begins much earlier in the 1980s, when Tadeusz first became a father and began envisioning a model of care built on family values and scientific rigour. Today, the family practice continues to treat patients in the city they’ve called home for generations, blending modern medicine with an unmistakably human touch.

For FutureMeds, the launch of Health Foundry marks another important step in its mission to bring high-quality, community-rooted research sites to patients across Europe.
